The Texarkana Police Department has officially welcomed four new officers to its ranks following their recent graduation from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy (ALETA) in Camden. The intensive 13-week academy, involving approximately 649 hours of instruction and practical training, prepares recruits for the challenges of law enforcement. Among recent graduates joining Texarkana PD is Officer Christopher Smithey, who notably earned the Physical Fitness Award during the 2024-A ALETA class. Upon joining the department, these new officers will undergo a comprehensive internal training phase, including time in dispatch and an extensive Field Training Program lasting up to six months, before undertaking independent patrol duties.
