The City of Texarkana, Texas, will dedicate a new historical marker recognizing Baseball Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews on Saturday, May 30, at 9 a.m. at the Swanger Sports Complex in Spring Lake Park.
The marker, donated by the U12 Texarkana Naturals, celebrates Mathews’ legacy as one of the most accomplished athletes to come out of Texarkana. Mathews, a powerhouse third baseman known for his consistent hitting and standout career, remains Texarkana’s only Major League Baseball Hall of Famer.

A Tribute to Inspire Future Generations
City officials say placing the marker at Swanger Sports Complex is especially meaningful. The location connects Mathews’ story to a place where young athletes train, compete, and build their own dreams. Leaders hope the memorial will serve as a reminder that national‑level success can begin right here at home.
Community Partnership
The City expressed appreciation to the U12 Texarkana Naturals for making the project possible through their donation and support. Officials noted that the effort highlights the importance of preserving local history while celebrating community pride and athletic achievement.
