TEXARKANA, Texas — The Texarkana Public Library has introduced a modern solution for patrons seeking peace and privacy: new soundproof study pods designed for focused work, meetings, and interviews.
The library now offers two individual pods and a larger four‑seat unit that is wheelchair accessible. Each pod features adjustable desks and lighting, built‑in fans, electrical outlets, and charging stations. Transparent walls and camera monitoring ensure safety while maintaining a quiet environment.
Library Executive Director Olivia Poulton said the pods provide a flexible alternative to the frequently booked meeting room. “They give patrons a private space for video calls, job interviews, or telehealth appointments,” she explained.
The pods can be reserved for up to two hours through the library’s website or in person. Laptop computers are also available for checkout, allowing anyone with a library card to create a personal workspace at no cost.
Funding for the project came from a grant by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, which also supported new computer upgrades — including high‑performance e‑sports systems.
