TEXARKANA, Ark. — A major shakeup is coming to the Texarkana, Arkansas, city government. With the mayor’s office and three Board of Directors seats on the ballot this November, candidate registration documents reveal that only one out of four incumbents is running for re-election.
Ward 5 Director Danny Jewell is the sole incumbent aiming for another term. Current Mayor Allen Brown, Ward 3 Director Steven Hollibush, and Ward 4 Director Ulysses Brewer did not file by Monday’s application deadline.
As a result, residents can expect a new mayor and at least two—possibly three—fresh faces on the six-member board when the new term begins on January 1, 2027.
Here is a look at who is on the ballot this November:
- Mayor: Voters will choose between current Ward 2 Director Laney Harris and Domtar paper mill executive Tammy Waters. (Note: If Harris wins the mayoral race, the new board will appoint a replacement for his Ward 2 seat.)
- Ward 3: Jennifer K. Harland will face off against Otha Williams Jr.
- Ward 4: This seat features a three-way race between Clinton T. Brewster, Natasha Crabbe, and Timothy “T.J.” Wall.
- Ward 5: Incumbent Danny Jewell is being challenged by Laura Nix.
