TEXARKANA, Texas — A Bowie County woman has been sentenced to 40 years in the Texas Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to multiple counts of injury to a child connected to abuse in her home, according to court records.
Court documents identify the defendant as Destiny Lynn Culvahouse, 26. Records show she pleaded guilty earlier this month to two counts of first-degree injury to a child and two counts of third-degree injury to a child.
Culvahouse was sentenced to 40 years on each of the first-degree charges and 10 years on each of the third-degree charges, according to court records. The four terms will run concurrently.
The case stems from a Sept. 27, 2024, incident at Creekside Apartments in the 3300 block of Nichols Drive, where police were dispatched after Culvahouse called 911 to report her 5-year-old son was unresponsive. Officers and paramedics attempted life-saving measures before transporting the child to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An examination at the hospital revealed “massive bruises to the child victim’s abdomen, buttocks and extremities,” according to an affidavit. The affidavit said the “extensive injuries” were consistent with foul play.
Culvahouse’s husband, Terry Robinson, pleaded guilty in March to beating Culvahouse’s 5-year-old son, his stepson, to death, according to court documents. Records state Robinson pleaded guilty to a murder charge and three counts of injury to a child and was sentenced to life in the Texas Department of Corrections.
